Treatment timed between events, not instead of them
Golfers come to London Cartilage Clinic with knee, hip, elbow and wrist problems that a season of travel and repetition has worn into the joint. Sessions are closed and timed to the tour calendar, and the preference is always for options that preserve the joint.
How a private clinic day works
Reviewed byProfessor Paul Lee MBBch, FRCS (Tr & Orth), PhDCartilage and joint preservation expertiseWho this page is for
Golf is a sport of repetition. The lead knee, the trail hip, the elbows and the wrists take the same load thousands of times a week, and the travel between events means a problem rarely gets the rest it would need to settle on its own. London Cartilage Clinic sees touring professionals in closed clinic sessions, with imaging on the same visit and a plan that fits the gaps in the schedule.
Nobody is named on this page or anywhere else on the site. That is deliberate.
What you bring with you
The pressures the clinic plans around
Events are booked a year ahead
Treatment has to fit the gaps between events. Clinic sessions are arranged around the tour calendar, and the choice of treatment takes the next start date into account.
Travel is constant
Early assessment can happen by virtual consultation with Professor Lee after an imaging review, so you fly in once with a plan already agreed.
Form is public, injuries need not be
Sessions are closed to other patients. No names are used in any public material and your visit is known only to the team caring for you.
How the clinic adapts
In the order it happens
- Step 1
A closed session at 66 Harley Street
The clinic is reserved for you for part or all of a day, subject to availability, with no shared waiting room.
- Step 2
Scan and consultation in one visit
Imaging is scheduled directly before you see Professor Lee, so the appointment is spent on a decision rather than a referral for a scan.
- Step 3
Joint-preserving options first
Where the problem suits it, injection-based treatment with little downtime is considered before anything that would take you out of competition.
- Step 4
Rehabilitation with your own team
The recovery plan is written to be delivered by your fitness and coaching staff wherever you are, with remote review from the clinic.

Questions we are asked
Can I be assessed before I travel to London?
Yes. After an imaging review, a virtual consultation with Professor Lee can settle the likely plan so that you make one visit, with the scan and the consultation on the same day.
How much time away from competition should I expect?
It depends entirely on the problem and the treatment. Injection-based options can sit inside a short gap in the calendar. Where surgery is the right answer, the timing is planned with you around the season. Nothing is promised before Professor Lee has seen the imaging.
Can my caddie, coach or physiotherapist be involved?
Yes. With your consent the imaging, the findings and the rehabilitation plan are shared with the people who manage your body and your schedule, so there is one plan rather than two.
